Collaborative Capacity Building with Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) on Monitoring of Marine and Riverine Plastic Pollution in ASEAN Region Agenda

Objectives: The activity aims to build the foundation to develop monitoring and assessment programmes for marine litter to enable participants to: (1) Independently establish/design a programme to monitor and assess the distribution and abundance of plastic litter in accordance with Indonesia National Guideline; (2) Report on the distribution and abundance of plastic litter; and (3) Use data to inform and guide policy.

• Participants: Officials from local governments (including the representatives from the Environmental Agency), lectors as well as students fromvarious universities with studies related to marine litter are expected to actively participate in the capacity building activity.
• Expected output/s: (1) Better understanding on the role of rivers to transport marine litter from land to coastal and marine environment; (2) Capacity enhanced to conduct marine litter monitoring, reporting, and translating data into actionable policy; (3) Harmonized and more coordinated riverine marine litter monitoring efforts, resulting in a comparable results.
• Format event: The training will include both classroom sessions and a series of field visits to conduct marine litter sampling and laboratory analysis.
