Local Government Solutions to Marine Pollution form Landbased Activities Agenda

Local governments are becoming more active in reducing marine pollution form land-based activities. These efforts are being driven by economic incentives, as well as the demands of civil society, youth, sociallyresponsible businesses, and international efforts. Governments are taking action through enabling market-based instruments, and promoting marine pollution control programmes. It is important to forge strong partnerships through various initiatives for localized solutions to marine pollution form land-based activities in cities.

This forum will look at three sessions to find value in marine pollution form land-based activities: (1) Solution to Combat Marine Litter; (2) Solution to Reduce of Marine Pollution from Increased Nutrients; and (3) Solution to Reduce of Marine Pollution from Wastewater. This forum will focus on municipal authorities who are championing changes and demonstrating policy innovations to tackle marine pollution form land-based activities, how the private sector and civil society can work together with local government to localize solutions to marine pollution.
Topics that will be covered including:
1. The Dynamic of ICM to Foster Effective Management on Reducing Marine Pollution form Land-based Activities;
2. Organizational Advancement and Local Government Cooperation to Control Marine Pollution from Nutrient, Wastewater, and Marine Litter from Land-based Activities;
3. Local Infrastructural Challenges to Control Marine Pollution from Nutrient, Wastewater, and Marine Litter;
4. Coordinating Financing Mechanism from Various Sectors and Local Administrations to Control Marine Pollution form Land-based Activities.

Considering the recent situation around COVID-19 pandemic, the Clean Seas Forums with Private Sectors within the 2020 agenda will be conducted virtually through webinars.
